Survey: 10,000 laptops lost at U.S. airports every week…Do You Buy This?
July 4th, 2008
This what was reported by USA Today
More than 10,000 laptops are lost or stolen each week at U.S. airports, says security industry executive Richard Stiennon in a blog for NetworkWorld.com. He cites a survey conducted by The Ponemon Institute, a monitor of privacy and security issues.
My Response
I don’t buy it. I few a number of years I traveled on multiple flights through many airports including a number of the busiest. I know I would be aware of a lost machine or stolen machine problem of that magnitude. I am not sure I would believe 10,000 a month. First that is a big number. Second a lot of people carry laptops but most do not. Of the people I know who travel (quite a few) I am not aware of one person having their laptop stolen or lost at an airport. I am aware of one person who had his laptop in his car visible and left it overnight in a hotel parking lot. The next morning the car had been broken into and the laptop stolen One incident and not at an airport.

The Best Advice For Traveling By Air
November 22nd, 2007
Based on more than 20 years experience with all airlines there is only one period of time that I absolutely loved traveling by air - that is when I was traveling by Corporate Jet - a big one. So unless that is the means of travel - my summary advice is to be happy where you are and avoid air travel if at all possible. Future posts will be devoted to making that travel as least unenjoyable as possible
